Every innovation, every genius plan begins with a thought… It could be a thought triggered by someone’s plight or someone’s aspirations. Fact remains. Thoughts become actions and actions have consequences and results.

The inability to afford property is a plight that many share in Zimbabwe. Most mortgages are unattainable because of the conditions attached to them hence the rise of land barons who in turn become landlords to the majority of the Zimbabwean population. It is a sad truth that many individuals reach retirement and inevitably pass on without ever owning a house. This thought or rather, this realization is the reason National Building Society exists. One day not so long ago someone thought of a plan. A plan to make affordable housing a reality. Just over a year ago, on the 19th of May 2016, that plan became National Building Society. Our mortgage interests are the most competitive on the market, ranging between 9.5% and 11.5%. As we celebrate our first anniversary, let us take a look at our journey so far.

We launched on the 19th of May 2016 with the introduction of Samora Machel branch followed immediately by JMN Nkomo branch as well. We have since managed to implement several housing projects with some of the completed units having been commissioned in areas like Adelaide Park in Epworth, Woodbrooke Park in Bindura, Amalinda Park in Glen Norah and Stoneridge Park in Harare. We also held nationwide roadshows where we ran engagement meetings with various land developers, contractors and building material suppliers.

Apart from providing affordable housing, we also have a very innovative banking system which has resulted in a wide array of customer-centered products like our most recent Agency Banking service branded InstaPoint enabling customers to get NBS services form within their localities. As the NBS journey continues, we are very excited to positively impact thousands of lives this year and beyond as we continue building communities!
